Kaki Farms

Kaki Farms is a family-owned poultry farming business with facilities throughout Southern Mexico and the Yucatan. The company owns over 1.5 million egg-laying chickens that produce about 1.2 million eggs per day. Additionally, Kaki is fully integrated with multiple facilities dedicated to raising chicks, producing animal feed, and manufacturing cardboard egg packaging.

Thanks to a new 2.2 MW solar energy portfolio developed by ForeFront Power, Kaki will now save $750,000 MXN per year and avoid emitting 600 tons of carbon dioxide annually. The addition of solar power means Kaki’s farms can produce high-quality eggs more efficiently and sustainably, while serving as an industry leader for agricultural businesses in Mexico.

Amid a global egg shortage, Kaki’s work is more important than ever. With 50 years in operation, Kaki’s customers include hotels, bakeries, and pet food manufacturers. Their adoption of renewable energy sets the company apart as a sustainable farm, while saving money on electricity. Through the solar energy portfolio developed by ForeFront Power, Kaki has been able to offset nearly 90% of its electricity consumption, while still delivering high-quality produce throughout Mexico. By partnering with ForeFront Power, Kaki modernizes its energy infrastructure while staying focused on what it does best – producing high-quality eggs.

A portfolio of 2.2 MW DC is a considerable achievement in Mexico, as state regulation currently caps individual projects at 500 kW AC for projects without permits from the utility. Companies like Kaki are some of the first to demonstrate how solar energy can help the Mexican economy flourish.

After reviewing a number of solar providers, Kaki selected ForeFront Power for its comprehensive services and its excellent reputation. The Kaki solar energy portfolio – 17 sites totaling 2.2 MW DC – enables the company to continue growing with an estimated $54 million MXN in savings over 20 years. Kaki plans to capitalize on the company’s growth with future on-site renewable energy expansion.
